I bought this on my own, not a preview or free. Disappointed within first chapter! Steele used to have strong female characters, but the two in this srory are pathetic from the start. I have a tough time believing they are tops in their medical careers but have no common sense in their personal lives. The one involved with the married man is so obsessed with him it's just doesnt gel with her smarts in her career. I am already sick of her whining about it, for pages! So far, I find the characters one dimensional and formulaic. Wish I hadnt wasted the money on this book. I dont expect the great American novel from Steele, but her writing is not what it once was. Concept for novel was great, but characters are poorly conceived. Skip it!
Realistic characters, gritty settings and compelling drama! It's rare not to be drawn into a Danielle Steel novel within a few paragraphs of the first chapter and her latest release is no exception! With well-crafted words, we're transported quickly into the minds of four doctors, all working in trauma departments at different hospitals around San Francisco. Descriptive settings take us into a day in the life of each doctor without portraying it in a gruesome fashion that might detract from your enjoyment of the book. They are all drawn together to be part of a dual-city mass injury training venture with four doctors in Paris. The romance is light since there are multiple characters to center around, but the drama is spot on to carry you throughout the book. Really enjoyed it! Bill Browning heads up the trauma unit at San Francisco's most volatile emergency room. With his ex-wife raising his daughters in London, he throws himself into working around the clock and dreams of those moments when he gets to visit with his girls. This trip will bring him to their side of the world for a few weeks and he's beside himself with happiness about that. Stephanie Lawrence is on the fast track as a trauma doc at Mission Bay. She has two young sons and a work-from-home husband who grows more frustrated with the time she spends at the hospital every day. All she's ever dreamed of is so close she can taste it, she just needs to stay on track to lead it all one day. This training trip is going to be a sore point for her family. Wendy Jones is a leading trauma doctor at Stanford but her personal life is in a rut that she doesn't seem to be able to overcome. She's boxed herself into a corner as the mistress to a cardiac surgeon who seems to have gotten comfortable having his lady on the side while having his wife at home instead of following through on all that he promised her in the beginning. Tom Wylie is a love 'em and leave 'em player of a doc at Alta Bates, but he's the type of guy that everyone loves. Upbeat and always smiling, Tom is the life of the party. He has no plans to settle down and isn't ashamed of the parade of women he has marching through his bed. These four doctors are chosen as the top of the city to travel to Paris to train with a team of their counter-parts in mass-casualty situations. It's fashioned to be a huge learning experience for both cities, and along the way they learn more about themselves and each other. When a severe attack happens, they find themselves thrust full force into the terror they are training for, making decisions that will change lives!
Turning Point by Danielle Steel will keep you turning the pages until the very end. It is about four trauma doctors who go to France to participate in a mass casualty training program. What happens while there will change the lives of all invilved.Stephanie is a trauma doctor at UCSF. She is married to Andy who is a stay at home dad to their two little boys. As she tries to be the very best in her field she is putting her marriage in peril. Wendy is at Stanford. She is in a telationship with a married doctor. She is beginning to realize this affair is going nowhere but does she have what it takes to end it. Bill is at SF General. He is divorced and his ex-wife lives in London with his two little girls. He lives for the time he can spend with his daughters. Tom is at Oakland medical center. He is determined to remain single and has become the love them and leave them doctor.Upon meeting four of their counterparts in France lives change. Danielle Steel's books have real people in real situations dealing with current situations. I hope you give this book a chance. You will not regret it.
Today's world is filled with news of violence and trauma hospital units, so this is very much reality, relatable, yet not gruesome stories. It tells the story of 4 individuals chosen to participate in a trauma exchange program to implement best procedures. As they are separated from their family, friends, spouses or affairs, each character gains a different perspective on life after facing more trauma crisis.Even if you have not personally have a life changing event in your life, you can still relate to these characters. For those of us who have experienced drastic changes due to a difficult event or tragedy, you can empathize with these characters. For it is working through the grief and troubled times, that we find we are changed, but stronger individuals. We see what really matters more clearly.
I could not put this down until I finished it. 5 hours later, I was upset that I was done. An amazing storyline yet heartbreaking. But describes the world we live in. The story of 8 amazing people who become great friends during a horrific time. ðŸ‘
I've been reading D.Steel for decades, as great a writer as she is, the story lines are usually predictable. Not this book! I felt part of this one, like I was part of the cast, warm, happy, scared and finally relieved when all the characters found their paths in the end. Great job Danielle Steel!
Ok. I confess that I love Danielle Steel books. They are easy to read with a great balance of action with interesting characters. While they may seem predictable, the author always manages to deliver surprises. I love the relatively happy endings and how conflicts get resolved. The setting for this book includes the Bay Area hospital system and the hospitals around Paris.
It just seemed to ramble. Have been disappointed by many of her novels in recent years. Her characters, especially women, aren't as deep. And she will make a point and repeat it over and over and over. Takes on an almost sing songy cadence. The premise of this book was good but the story just fell short again.
