I had to read this for a college class but found the information very outdated. At one point the book tells that 6 million people in the U.S. are on food stamps.On a positive note: the case histories at the beginning of each chapter show a good example of admin law in action.

This is an older book, but its use in Paralegal Studies is by far the best written in this genre of text book. The chapter concepts are concise and clearly stated as well as strongly supported with real life situations with numerous references to historical case law, and current legislation.

Lost paperwork for this rental and there is no way to trace where I rented it from. Any suggestions for me?

Administrative law is not an easy subject but decided to take the course anyways. Thankfully the teacher was much better than the book. We ended up hardly using it, the book as a good amount of information but the way it's written can get a little confusing sometimes although so does the legal world. Overall it's a useful book but must take time to read it thoroughly.

Great book for the very basics of ACLS. Not for first timers. If you have studies the AHA ACLS provider manual already, then this is a good quick review, no fluff, no repetition, and a much easier interface than the ebook from AHA. Just be aware that Vasopressin is mentioned as an alternative to Epi, but Vasopressin has been dropped from the very latest algorithm. Also, the quiz at the back of the book has a couple of errors, questions 9 and 19 don't make sense. As long as you know about these two little issues, I fully recommend the book for ACLS review. Also, the ebook was free on Kindle--great!

Was hesitant at first to purchase due to some negative reviews but took the chance considering they said to have updated the product. Pleasantly surprised with the updates and the ways they addressed the issues others were facing. Bottom line, it is an excellently reformatted edition. If the information was accurate I would give it five stars as a concise review. Luckily for me it was a review and the errors evident. For someone new the mistakes could result in medical errors or at the very least not passing the test.

Several errors, some not critical (tachycardia algorithm says bradycardia in the body of the text) and some critical ( dose of epinephrine varies in 3 places). Graphics are hard to read. Final quiz has errors (e.g. question 9). Lidocaine is never mentioned in the text, but comes up in the quiz.In the end, just buy the ACLS text from AHA if you want the final word.

Typical study guide for refreshing up on ACLS.

It has review questions, flow charts, and condensed version of ACLS. It's great if you are renewing your ACLS license.

Bought the online e book for $40.+ from AHA. It would not download or let me access it. Called help line but no IT avail. to fix problem on weekend, only a nurse who apologized. This ebook save me and it was free!

Plot: Helen and her husband Nate are middle school teachers at a private school and happily married. When Helen befriends a local teen, Olive, whose family has become the butt of gossip since her mother mysteriously left town and who has a secret quest of her own, she also meets Olive's Aunt Riley, who believes her stories about feeling haunted (unlike Nate). As the supernatural incidents begin to occur with more frequency to both Helen and Olive, they become engrossed in a search for the truth about Hattie and her family that will place them in danger, as it grows increasingly clear that Olive's mom may have been the victim of a crime. Can they solve the mystery and in doing so, put Hattie's spirit to rest?Thoughts: This is the second novel I've read recently that uses a house as the main metaphor, but unlike "The Unsheltered" by Barbara Kingsolver, there are no politics or preaching on timely issues by any characters (it's set in 2015), which makes it a far superior read. Helen and Riley are appealing characters, and Olive is undeniably spunky and unique among her technology-driven literary peers (most of whom don't deal with peer bullying by helping to construct two houses). The author does a great job of creating a rural small town setting and atmosphere, complete with authentic suspicion of outsiders and those considered odd. Overall, a rewarding novel with sympathetic female characters and a setting that lends itself to creating an intriguing mystery.

I don’t typically gravitate toward ghost stories, but when done with McMahon’s skill and suspense, I can’t resist. History teacher Helen is drawn to objects and places that resonate with antiquity. When she and her husband Nate decide to ditch their comfortable lives to build a house in the woods of Vermont, they learn that the property they purchase holds a dark secret.In the early 1900’s, the land belonged to Hattie, whom many locals suspected of being a witch. When Hattie predicted a fire that would kill children in the local schoolhouse, the enraged residents hung her from a tree on the spot. Hattie’s daughter Jane was forced to abandon her family land and her mother’s legacy.A hundred years later, Helen and Nate learn Hattie’s story, and while Nate is skeptical about any sort of haunting, Helen is convinced Hattie is still very much present on the land. She begins acquiring items for their new home that have ties to Hattie or her descendants. These invocations start a chain of events that would threaten their marriage, their sanity, and their safety.Scrappy local teenager Olive is given an additional perspective. While her piece of the narrative is significant, I wasn’t as captivated by her shenanigans. Her determination to learn what happened to her mother is admirable, but she takes risks that made me want to take her by her 14 year-old shoulders and shake some sense into her.I really liked the multigenerational aspect of the story and how Helen was able to research what may have happened to Hattie and Jane. Add the prospect of Hattie’s buried treasure, the atmosphere of the bog on Helen and Nate’s property, and the creepy spectral presences, and you have a well-crafted, haunting novel.

I Am America (And So Can You!) will astonish you. This book is as hilarious insightful as Stephen Colbert himself. Stephen Colbert is a national treasure, highlighting both the ridiculousness of all things politics and the dichotomy of moral right and wrong. In “I Am America (And So Can You)”, Colbert shines doing what he does best: Explaining political concepts to uninformed readers while mocking and chiding the politicians who keep them in the dark. This book arrived fast and I was finished reading by the time the clock struck 1. I literally could not put this book down to eat. The binding on this book is beautiful, with a shiny velvet-red finish on the page-ends and a ribbon emblazoned with * First Edition * to mark your progress through this wonder of a book. The outside bindings are a beautiful red-white-and-blue themed menagerie and the heel of the book is engraved in bold lettering. The book throughout is filled with wonderful illustrations and images that fit the theme and style of the book and give it an overall cohesiveness that is shocking well built for a comedy book. However, Stephen Colbert has been constantly surprising us with his know-how and insight since his early career on the Daily Show. I am completely satisfied with this book, the shipping, and the content itself. Stephen Colbert has churned out another masterful book from his wonderful comedic mind and the word is a funnier, better, more politically informed place for it. Four Stars.

This will be my second read through of this book. I loved it, it was a fun read. Everyone should read it, since it automatically makes you 25% more patriotic just by opening it. I, sadly, lost my original copy while fleeing my manchild of a boyfriend's house. I must have abandoned many beloved tomes in my haste to no longer serve as my partner's surrogate mother, as I keep discovering books that I was certain I own, yet are nowhere to be found on my shelves. I chose the seller mostly at random, and boy, was I happy with the results! The shipping was faster than expected, the book itself is in excellent condition, and is a First Edition, and so is arguably better than the copy I'm replacing. It's all fancy with it's built in bookmark ribbon and stuff. I'm very happy with the purchase, freaking tickled, in fact. If you like the Colbert Report, you'll love this book. If you don't like, or don't know, Stephen's completely insane Comedy Central TV show, you will probably still do a good bit of laughing, although perhaps against your will.Colbert's basic shtick is that he is a conservative nutjob. He does it so well that some conservatives really do believe he's on their side. Of course, it's all satire; he's actually a progressive in very thin disguise.Another important part of his shtick is that he's an egomaniac. He manages to combine these two elements quite deftly. He portrays a white male Catholic (which apparently he really was as a little boy) who has incredibly confused concepts of reality, religion, politics, and just about everything else.The format of the book is also interesting. It has certain recurring "advertising" items, a segment entitled "Stephen Speaks for Me: A chance for average Americans to agree with what I think." Each chapter starts with a prologue shaped into an American flag, with one word where the field of stars would be, and all caps red print making up the stripes on the white background. He IS America, you see! There are marginal notes and footnotes that are quite as funny as the main text. There are two pages of stickers, one of flags to use for marginal comments, and one of stickers to put on other books to grant them "The Stephen T. Colbert for the Literary Excellence." (Yes, that superfluous article is in there.) There are fake games and quizzes and puzzles, and generally plenty of opportunity to have fun in the mad, mad, mad Colbert Nation.There are also some real insights, so beware if you thought it was all just for laughs. You may find yourself laughing at something which is really too true to be funny, the way zen masters hit you upside the head.I love this book.

I bought this because I am a huge fan of Stephen, but it was a tragic mistake. I opened it, read the forward, and I was assaulted by comedy!!! My lungs became instantly inflamed and hurt awfully. I need to read this two pages at a time at most, lest I go into traction! Thanks a whole hell of a lot Mr. Colbert!

I am a big fan of Stephen's show. I think he is witty and brilliant which became apparent during the writer's strike where he wrote all of his material himself. The book is akin to his show - just not as dense and as another reviewer noted - it gets a little repetitive after a while. Don't get me wrong - it is all in character of who he projects but a little digression here and there would have helped. I keep finding myself picking it up again from time to time and reading another bit but compared to 'America, the book' by his producer Jon Steward it pales.Anyhow, it's inexpensive and if you like his style and find yourself killing some time - it's ok. But it is by far not as polished as I had hoped it would be. It seems he sat down and wrote what came to his mind. I had hoped for a little more effort.

This book is full of great information on helping students become questioners instead of just answerers, which is the role they are accustomed to. What I like is that it is geared toward any age level. Many of the examples are from older grades, but I have used the technique with my third-graders and was thoroughly impressed by their efforts. I haven't implemented the entire process yet, mostly because I was excited and jumped in before finishing the whole book. Because there are a lot of things to consider, it would be good to read the whole book before implementing it, but since my class is young, I don't think it hurts to practice it a bit at a time. I love teaching them to be deeper thinkers and why that is important!

I purchased this book as a pd title for my summer. After reading through the method, I was too interested in the process to save it for later, so I decided to apply it in my summer school English I makeup class. I was having tons of trouble with these kids. They had already failed English and lacked confidence and engagement with the material. Nothing I did seemed to get them involved.Today, I ran just one time through the process. It was a massive success. Kids who had spent an entire year staring blankly at the wall were coming up with engaging, interesting, and challenging questions. I can't wait to follow up on some of the work they did.I'm a relatively new teacher, but I can't stress enough how incredibly effective this process was in my class. Great book, great idea, and great results.

Innovative concept. The book is an easy read but at some times it could seem repetitive. I would have liked to have heard more about the brain research associated with inquisitive thinkers and also more results based data on the application of the technique. The book uses case studies which are applicable and relevant. Overall I think that this book presents a new strategy and technique for teachers which is helpful for students. The book does an exceptional job of breaking down each part of the questioning technique.

In an era where education is focused on rigor, engagement, and depth of thought, the Q-Focus technique and Make Just One Change revolutionized how my students approach their writing. Empowering them to think about ideas that directly relate to their own lives (social media, art history, globalization) students were able to read complex texts toward writing well-developed free response questions to rigorous subjects. I saw my students' reading and writing grow significantly over the year, they enjoyed class activities, and thought more deeply about subjects that overwhelm most adults.The Q-Focus technique is something my students use in every class, on every writing assignment, and can carry with them through college and career. I wish I had learned this in high school! As a doctoral candidate, I can see how research processes are mirrored in the Q-Focus, preparing students to be highly competitive in a changing global marketplace. I would recommend this book to EVERY teacher of EVERY subject.

I've used the QFT in my classes and the students are able to finally get to deeper questions without the teacher. I've used it to introduce new materials--images and statements, then collect student questions, and bookend the lesson by showing students their own questions and having them answer it. For example, I used QFT in my Revolutions unit and students looked at the (rather boring) announcement of William and Mary's takeover during the Glorious Revolution. The students did not have a clue before hand, but their more in-depth questions helped them self-assess. We spent 10 minutes and the students were able to become more independent in the process--asking their own questions, analyzing primary documents, critiquing their own questions, and answering them with evidence from class or documents. I highly recommend this technique for any teacher who must demonstrate a student centered classroom.

Aren't we all trying to enable the student to be the worker, the discover, the thinker. If a student can't frame a question, the student learns only through what others have determined she/he should know, don't know -- the curiosity must be there; and the language of curiosity must be available. Excellent for first timers in the classroom, and for old-timers who need to be reminded.

I read this book in a day or so - I am a fast reader, but it was also just so well organized the well written that it was easy to read and quickly implement into my teaching. Also, it worked great, and my students wrote awesome questions that really furthered their learning and taught them how to come up with questions that can further learning. I would highly recommend it and have used the ideas for lots of different lessons and units.

As I apply the QFocus and the other aspects of the Question Formulation Technique to my curriculum and lesson/unit designs, I can foresee how this will positively improve students' engagement and responsibility for their learning. Another easy read with deep, complex learning outcomes- just what we are hoping for our students. This is a great fit for those of us who are in a state implementing CCSS. Take notes in the margin as you read as to how you're envisioning implementing this in your classroom. Then, as you're planning, just look at your notes to remind yourself of your ideas and right there next to your note, is the information necessary for implementation. A lot of fun!

My son hates reading. He HATES IT.Every time he has to read a book for school, I have to take the number of pages in the book, divide them by the number of days he has to READ it, and mark each day's reading block with a post it page marker. (example: 294 pages % 14 days = 21 pages per day! LOL)That being said, this book was his 11th grade summer reading assignment and I didn't have to force him to read it! He read more than was required each day and finished the book ahead of schedule. I'd come home from work and tell him to do his reading and he would say he already had!! He even commented that the book was "not that bad" !!! WHO IS THIS CHILD?!Admittedly, he said he knew that he was laughing at things that probably weren't supposed to be funny in the book, but whatever! I don't even care. This book engaged my son in a way no other author has managed to do. KUDOS and THANK YOU to James McBride!

I’m not a huge reader, normally it would take me over a month to finish any book. My usual feeling of trekking through the pages of a book was not, yes I said not, found in The Color of Water by James Mcbride. This book is universally relatable on so many different levels. Within most of the chapters there was something that emotionally impacted me on a certain level. This book is a roller coaster, it has it’s ups and it has it’s downs . This is why I decided to give my book 4 stars.James Mcbride is one of twelve mixed race siblings, with a white, single, jewish mom, during the 1940’s. During that time, there was a lot of racial discrimination, along with the holocaust occurring. Throughout his memoir James not only shares his life story, but Ruth's (his mom) as well. This makes for an even more impactful story because we are seeing how Ruth grew up, and learning about the different events that has happened in her life. Knowing her background while reading the story, allows us to understand the way she has raised her children and how she handles different situations with life and/or her kids.I’m not a mom, but I know raising 12 kids is an arduous effort. Ruth wasn’t able to keep everyone in check all the time, no matter how hard she tried. When James step-father passed away, James started to head down a bad path. His grades slipped like a man on ice, along with his behavior. He started getting involved with drugs and petty theft. When Ruth learned that James grades were slipping, and that he also was skipping school she sent him to his sister’s house down in Louisville, Kentucky. James was a mad as a bull. James ended up spending 3 consecutive summers down there. While he was down there he met a man named Chicken Man. Chicken Man played a very influential part in James life, they first met on the “corner” where a lot of the druggies or drunks could be found. While James and Chicken Man were standing on the corner, he explained to James that “everybody on this corner is smart, you ain’t no smarter than anybody here”(Mcbride 150). The Chicken Man shakes James belief that his knowledge makes him smarter than someone else. The Chicken Man shows James that all people are smart, it’s just what they do with their knowledge individualizes them.This part of the book impacted me the me the most because i’ve started to head down bad paths in life simply because I didn’t know how to deal with the pain or emotion. During these times, my two coaches, along with my parents, are the ones that helped get me back on track. They showed me what could happen if I continued to head down the path I was on. Everyone should have a role model in their life, for James that was chicken man or his mom, and for me; my parents, along with my coaches.This book changed my view on life and how no matter how hard times get you still need to keep going. Life is a mountain that we must continue to climb, no matter how many times we slip.It covered racial discrimination, how you can go from a bad situation and turn things around, how far religion can take you, and what you can accomplish with perseverance. James mom came from a dad who had molested her, but she didn’t let that hold her back. She went on to be married 2 times, and have 12 mixed race kids during the 1940s. She kept most of the kids in check ¾ of the time, and was able to provide for them all. Ruth, “wipes her memory instantly and with purpose” (271).She allows the bad to roll right off because she knows she has responsibilities to her kids. She is formidable, she is knowledgeable, she is unexpendable. The way Ruth raised her kids, and dealt with her own life is impeccable.Thank you James Mcbride for giving me a new perspective on how I few things, along with having a new genre of books to read.

Since finishing "The Color of Water," I have recommended it to everyone I know who reads.This should be required reading in every high school in the country. It addresses race relations; religious differences; family dynamics. And it is a loving tribute to a most remarkable mother.The writing is outstanding; the paragraph that gives us this memoir's title is one of the most (if not THE most) memorable paragraphs I've ever read, and it is all I can do to keep from quoting it while I'm recommending this book!I cannot believe it has taken me so many years to read "The Color of Water.". McBride has a masterpiece here.

This book tells me a story of a family that I love to hear about. We all know there are families everywhere who never seem to make any progress in overcoming problems. And then - Some families never give up, make the most of whatever situation they may find themselves in whether it is their own fault or not. We do not know how it is that some families, some individuals, survive and succeed against all odds. Some people seem to dig deep into their innate strength and persist in meeting each day as a new opportunity. Some do not even question that they can overcome. This book informs us that it is possible - to imagine a goal, to keep taking steps to attain the goal, to never give up. And one more thing: Children and adults alike need the support system that forbids giving up, a strong-willed parent, an encouraging friend, a teacher perhaps.

I would have given this 10 stars if that were possible. I loved the way James McBride wrote his mother's story, and by extension his siblings and his story. In a time where blame, deflecting, and scapegoating is the status quo, the author spared no punches and yet presented this story in such a way as to elicit empathy and draw me into the nuances of his life. He did this without carrying a well-deserved chip on his shoulder. His entire family is a testimony of resilience, rocketing above everything that would destroy many folks nowadays. A remarkable read which left me sad when I finished the last page.
