Studying this book in Sunday School class; ideas presented by 18th century minister, John Wesley, interpreted into modern day living by author, Reuben Job. I found this book to focus on the importance and biblical foundations of the three rules of the Wesleyan tradition. This book blessed me in a time I needed to learn what was offered in its pages. A simple but challenging call to follow Jesus more intentionally

Don't let the "Wesleyen Way of Living" part of the title throw you. This little book has application for all Christians. I was raised in the Methodist faith from age 4 to age 19, so I knew who John Wesley was, but not knowing who Wesley was or not being raised in a Methodist church would in no way limit the usefulness and/or impact of this book in any believers life. In fact, I am now the pastor in a non-denominational Protestant church and recently used this book as the basis for a three part sermon series. The three simple rules found in this book (Do no harm, Do good, Love God) are a powerful reminder to the experienced follower of Christ, a succinct distillation of Gospel truth for the new believer/young Christian and an attidote to the intellectual/ivory tower tripe and the "power" gospel that seems so pervasive in what passes for so called Christian literature and preaching/teaching today. This is a simple "life application" book that will benefit all who read it.

Tips on how to create space with reverb...a front, a middle, and a back. With good info on how to achieve this. But no advice on which elements to put where. Except, the author mentions putting the drums in the "front" space. That's confusing. I'm in a rock band. Seems like the drums should feel like there in the back. Another little section in the book giving me some advice on which elements go in which space.....then we would have had a 4 or 5 star book. I really like the authors series of books-------the one about EQ and Compression was a quick read....and improved my mixes immediately. Nathan....please make ALL of your books available in printed physical form. I've got half in real form. Your others were only available in Kindle form. That screws up my collection. Plus.....I like real books.

This will not provide you with any information you need if you know anything about mixing at all. This is some super super basic stuff written by an amateur.Maybe if you were a beginner this would be good. I dunno.

It's a nice overview of how you can conceptualize the use of reverb. The language that he uses feels a little imprecise, and sort of pseudosciency to me, but it has definitely been beneficial for me to think about the concepts from the author's point of view.

This book + the Bus Compression Framework I credit for really transforming the quality of my mixes. These are great references for creating a default framework for your projects.

Opened my ears to the importance of reverbs and how to use them to great effect.

This is an amazing book on how to use reverb effects in music. It goes 10x more in depth than any other book I've read on the subject. Just wonderful!

This is very good and helpful math book. Price was great, of course by considering the quality of the book, the materials and problem that the book covered. Good thing is this book is colorful, so more attractive for kids.I bought this for my 2nd grade kid, since my kid has higher level of math knowledge, though a little bit difficult, still good challenging.If you are going to work with your 3rd grade kid to strength his/her math skill, or you have a 2nd grader and wants to enhance his/her math, this is a good book with a nice price that cover most materials.

I'm pretty frustrated because I just realized my 2 copies are different from each other. I ordered these for my twin boys, so we could go through them together this summer, but this will be much more difficult with two different editions. When I ordered these, I selected 2 copies, so why different editions would be delivered I have no idea...

I purchased this workbook to give my son a preview of 3rd grade over summer vacation. I really love this booklet and for the price, it cannot be beat!It consists of 56 pages of math activities with an Answer Key in the back. The last page is a certificate for the child after completion. The back of the booklet provides additional activities to reinforce the math concepts learned.It is divided into sections (4 digit addition & subtraction, multiplication, division, etc.). At the beginning of each section, a brief summary is provided to show demonstrate the math concept. I found this to be very helpful as a parent since the way math is now taught is different from how I learned. It can be confusing for a child to learn a method at home when different terminology is used by school ("regrouping" versus "take away" when subtracting). It really helps for the parent and teacher to be on the same page when learning something new.I highly recommend this booklet for review or preparation for 3rd Grade math!

Forgot I'd bought it until I went to order it for the next child-- now using it as the basis for our home school math.It's awesome for keeping the kids brushed-up on math over the summer, or to identify problem areas that you can then drown in (free online!) auto-generated math problems. We use education dot com.

There are grammatical errors throughout the book that even my 3rd grader caught

This is better for summer practice between 2nd and 3rd grade.

My child's teacher said she needed extra help in this area and this workbook helps her practice more so she can do the math problems easily and quicker at school and at home!

Arrived quickly. Through this book I was able to teach my 6 year old daughter 3rd grade work. This great workbook covers many approaches on how to teach multiplication and division. My daughter says, "It is very fun and I love to learn".

I was in college in 1989 and had neither the time nor the funds for comic collecting so I took a decade or so off and missed out on the rise of Grant Morrison at DC comics. I get the impression DC was trying to strike gold again after hooking up with Alan Moore but there’s only one Alan Moore and Animal Man or Doom Patrol just weren’t in the same league as Moore’s Swamp Thing. I’ve read Morrison’s work on the Justice League in TPB’s and hated it but I confess to loving about 50% of the stuff he produces including his recent Multiversity which had many moments of brilliance. Morrison is like a major league slugger who is capable of smashing a ball out of the park or creating a hurricane with his whiff.I was excited to read Morrison’s nearly 30 year old Doom Patrol stories, particularly since the weirdness of the character dynamics has continued to be used decades later. Having now read volume one I can officially say I am not particularly impressed and I’m pretty sure if I had read an issue of Doom Patrol in 1989 I would stopped at just one. In 1989 Grant Morrison would have been 29 years old. Certainly not a kid but young for a writer. His youth is evident here as there are a ton of ideas thrown at the reader but a certain lack of coherency. This isn’t to say that Morrison has ever mastered the art of structured storytelling but these early stories seem particularly messy.Besides the writing the other issues is with the visuals. The intro refers to penciller Richard Case as an “inspired master craftsman”. Perhaps his art has improved since 1989, when he was just 25, but I found it aesthetically unappealing.In many ways the Doom Patrol feels more like a horror comic rather than a superhero comic. Again, there are a lot of interesting ideas here but Morrison flings them out at such a rapid rate that there is no time to establish what the heck is going on. He can never just relax and work with an idea. For instance I was interested in Negative Man (Rebis) and Morrison spent a little time on him/her before jumping on to the next idea and the next and the next. I was not a fan of Crazy Jane and I’ve never really liked comic characters who’s powers are based on mental illness. The fact that Dr. Caulder would refer to her as “Crazy” Jane as if that were literally her superhero name seemed rather callous. Dorothy Spinner, the ape faced girl, was fairly useless in this volume. I wish Morrison could have spent more time establishing the characters and less time throwing them into bizarre situations.

Grant Morrison is most famous for writing Animal man in the late 80's. While that series certainly had it's share of weirdness, it was nothing compared to the insanity of this volume of doom patrol.Doom Patrol starts off at issue #19 of the series. This is the same situation as Alan Moore's Swamp Thing, where DC and fans recognize that the series only really got good once these writers took over. Now, it's a bit more of an awkward start for Doom Patrol, since Morrison didn't devote as much time as Moore did to explaining backstory, but we do get a brief introduction to our main characters. The Doom Patrol isn't like normal super hero teams, consisting of people who are in some way damaged. From a woman with multiple personalities, to a brain stuck in a robot body, to a hermaphrodite-energy hybrid...well it goes on like that for a while. This brings me to my first problem with this volume and the series so far. The three main characters get plenty of screen time, but there are at least four other Doom Patrol members,and outside a focus issue or two, they don't do much. It doesn't really get in the way of the series, but it does feel like it isn't living up to it's potential.So, moving on to the plot of this series. Well. Ok, let's put this bluntly, Doom Patrol is a series that goes weird for the sake of weird. It is an extremely avant-garde, absurdist series, and has the artwork to back it up. To give one example, there exists in this comic a group of police that work for a cult, who operate by drawing the fingerprints of their victims onto their helmets so that those they kill will get trapped in the whorls, and speak entirely in anagrams. Now, that's not to say it isn't engrossing. Some villains are actually quite well developed as characters. But this isn't a series that's going to make a lot of direct sense. Still, it's tons of fun, has great artwork, and I would be remiss if I didn't recommend it.

I read some of the Morrison/Case run of Doom Patrol back when it was new, and it fascinated me. It was around the time of the Shadow Cabinet storyline. I vividly (and maybe accurately) recall one of my all-time favorite bits of dialog from comics: Fortune Teller - You have a very long life line. It goes all the way around. Crazy Jane - That's a seam. I'm wearing gloves.That day, "Negative Man" (or, at that time, probably "Negative Hermaphrodite") became one of my all-time favorite superheroes. The enigmas that spilled out of Negative Person's bandage-swaddled mouth were amazing, the casual manner of floating just above the ground instead of walking was great, and the whole sense of bizarre atmosphere that infused the story set my imagination a-tingle. I thought it was probably just a particularly weird plot arc, and sadly I did not get to read more than a few issues before losing track of it. Years later, I learned that kind of bizarreness was "normal" for Grant Morrison's Doom Patrol stories.A couple decades after that Shadow Cabinet story, I found out Doom Patrol got rebooted, so I started reading it. Different writer, different artist, different feel. It was nowhere near as intriguing as I remembered. I dropped it after a few issues. It did not really leave an impression.I finally got around to ordering the first collected volume of the Morrison/Case run (Case didn't illustrate all the Morrison issues, apparently, but at least most of them), and this time Doom Patrol did not disappoint. I'm pretty sure I never read any of the issues collected in this volume, but it's excellent. It ended on a hilarious note, left me with a smile on my face and an urge to write this review. I await the next volume on the edge of my seat; I'll order it shortly.If you're the kind of person who likes stories written to comfort the disturbed and (most importantly and dramatically) disturb the comfortable, get this book.

I hardly ever write reviews, but this book is really excellent. It's the rare programming book that is API-specific but not just a reformulation of the documentation. It's clearly based on long experience and full of information that, as far as I know, is not available anywhere else: measurements, explanations for why things are the way they are, and examples of code that doesn't work the way you might expect. I've been programming Cocoa for almost 20 years, so I had figured out many of the specific points on my own, but I read the book cover-to-cover and don't feel that any of my time was wasted. The writing is concise and filled with little nuggets of insight. The principles are timeless, so I expect this book to remain relevant and even be of interest to programmers using other platforms.

This book is well written, thoughtful, and accessible to beginning developers. If you're new to the platform this is a must-read. If you're an experienced iOS / macOS developer you'll find this book to be like an extended conversation with a long-time expert. It's more than helpful and the author's candor is refreshing. Marcel Weiher has opinions based on deep experience, and he knows the difference between an opinion and an objective fact. This book is rich with helpful examples showing how to circle in upon a performance issue which might not be obvious at first blush. Developers, if you work on a team you'll want your managers to read this book, too. (I am the CEO of illumineX, inc, maker of custom software for large enterprises and consumer software for macOS and iOS. I'm going to give a copy of this book to every developer on my team.)

Marcel is a former Apple engineer who's thoughts and opinions are strong, well-informed and are still well-respected within that large pool of excellent software minds. This book is awesome and if you intend to do anything on a macOS or iOS (or any other Apple platform) do buy and read this book. Wisdom and experience and yes strongly worded pragmatism throughout.I will add to it that Mr. Weiher is well known as an advocate of all of the things SmallTalk brought to Objective-C and you should understand the perspective he presents is that Objective-C is a strong and flexible language. Understanding this will make more sense in reading the book.

Absolutely terrible!

Developing for the Mac for more than 13 years and many other operating systems and CPU architectures for more than two decades, I've learnt a lot about what makes code performant. Yet I still learnt new things and picked up new ideas reading this book. If you're serious about writing performant code (not only) for Apple's platforms, I can wholeheartedly recommend this unique collection of knowledge, opinions and advice.

This is a good book about WHY churches should be focusing more on children’s ministry but the title “Transforming Children into Spiritual Champions,” is very misleading. I was expecting more of the HOW but instead I got the WHY. If you are trying to convince the church to take children’s ministry more seriously, this book should do the trick. If you want to know exactly what you should be doing to help transform children, this book will leave you feeling disappointed.“Transforming Children into Spiritual Champions” is packed full of George Barna’s research, sharing eye opening statistics about children. The purpose of the book is to convince the reader that children are the most important aspect of the church. Children are the future. It is true that most churches miss the seriousness of children’s ministry. Some churches simply view children’s ministry as a baby-sitting service or as a means to reach the “more important” group of parents. Barna admitted that at one time he undervalued children’s’ ministry but he now believes it to be the most important ministry. It certainly convinced me that children’s ministry is important but I struggle to say that it is the most important. In many ways that does not seems biblical that one ministry of the church would be consider so much greater than another. This book interests me as a parent and as a children’s ministry leader. I want my children to be spiritual champions. I was hoping to feel more equipped and prepared to lead them after reading this book. Many times parents rely on the church solely to meet the spiritual needs of their children. Sometimes the church is just as guilty trying to replace the parents in meeting children’s spiritual needs. Barna challenges parents and the church to partner in ministering to children.

I enjoyed this book. It's very relevant if you are in a church or belief that the children's ministry is an afterthought or that all they do is babysit kids while parents go to the big church. This book shows the importance of the children's ministry in our world today."Many of the choices and outcomes in children's lives relate to two things...the moral and spiritual dimensions." Barna is good to show us at the start of the book the state of kids today in both world and spiritual health. He talks about how we must equip parents to help their children know Christ and become mature Christians because they are the church of tomorrow.I like the statistics. It makes it more real, and shows us the importance of training up a child, especially in today's world. They make us realize that focusing on children's ministry is critical. What I think is important, is Barna points out that it is not all on the shoulders of the children's minister but that the church can assist parents in the teaching of their children to spiritual maturity rather than replace them.I'm not sure the statement on the cover of the book that claim's children's ministry should be the primary focus of the church is completely accurate. I believe it should be one of the primary focus, alongside other ministries, and not swept aside as an afterthought.If you're looking for a book on how to's, this is not for you. I do believe it's a book that all children's ministry leaders, leaders in the church, and parents, should read to see the importance of the children's ministry. But this book will not give you steps to make your ministry better. It does talk about some general descriptions of what effective churches are doing but doesn't go into a lot of detail.The book is an easy read, fast read. I'd recommend it.

This is a great book. The author certainly gets his point across that children should be the highest priority within the church. The statistics given are alarming to say the least.This book, though presented as Why Children Should Be Your Church’s #1 Priority, does spend a good deal of time focusing on the importance of the parent, pointing out that it is the parent’s ultimate responsibility to oversee the spiritual development of their children. However, the author presents this information in order to encourage churches to work alongside parents, providing them with resources to better lead their children to spiritual maturity.The author’s intent is to help parents and church workers (staff and volunteers) see the influences upon our children, identify the spiritual needs of our children, and find ways we can begin to adjust our methods of training children in order to better aid them in their spiritual development. He begins by giving statistics that reveal the current beliefs of adults and children. Using these statistics, he makes a strong case for why children’s ministry and proactive parental involvement matter; calling parents and children’s workers to help children find vision, purpose, and passion, while developing perseverance and a biblical worldview. Though the book relies heavily upon statistics, it in no way neglects Scripture, but provides biblical references throughout.On the downside, while the author gives some great ideas on how to better organize our children’s ministries (such as adding additional workers and creating our own curriculum) he fails to list additional resources to help accomplish these tasks. The section on evaluating children is good and does provide a list of outcomes to look for based off of the Ten Commandments, the fruits of the Spirit, and the Sermon on the Mount, and provides a short list of ideas to use in developing an evaluation process, but again fails to give adequate information on how to directly go about developing an evaluation and does not provide a resource list to help.This is a great book, but in need of a resource list.
