I read all of these stories easily to my daughter as one of bedtime story. There are 5 stories; Little Star Friends, Pirate Ship Adventures, Adventure to the Moon, The Magical Frog, and Where is Teddy. At first the book seemed geared to boys, as the first 3 stories were more boy related and my daughter had to ask if it was a book for boys. As soon as she asked that then came the stories for girls, there are 2 stories for girls at the end of the book. The stories are short so they can be easily read in no time. There are a few grammatical errors in the book, but nothing that takes away from reading it. My daughter did point some of them out but she is eight. Younger kids will not notice them at all. This would be a great story to read to first-grader or younger. I think, they can appreciate the simplicity of the story and the verbiage. Older kids will not be as engaged and will probably point out some of the grammatical errors within the book. They may even feel as though the book is gender specific as the first few stories have male main characters and only the last 2 stories have female main characters.I would recommend that the author change around the story lineup a bit. He needs to intertwine the male and female character base stories as the story now has the first 3 stories being male based and the last 2 females. It should be male-female-male-female-male; this way if more than one story is being read at nights in one setting, some kids (mainly girls) will not feel as though it's bedtime stories for boys. This will allow the book does not feel gender specific in the beginning.

I am one of those readers who love when authors stretch past the boundaries of fiction and explore realms that you know are completely unfeasible, but you enjoy reading otherwise.The stories in this book just seemed to reach so far that my nephew kept stopping our bedtime reading so that he could ask questions that are completely logical, but I didn't really have an answer for because I KNEW that there is no way that a kid could hide out on a pirate ship, get stranded on a treasure-filled island when the pirates find their treasure chest and leave, and then build a raft and go back home. Honestly, the kid was described as to being under 8 years of age! No one wondered where he had gotten off to after having been gone for nearly a day?!And there's also the fact that in every story the parents just seemed to accept everything that happened without thinking about it. Completely illogical.If you're looking for a collection of bedtime stories that have fleshed out plotlines that children can understand (especially to the age group this is targeted for), and characters that they can relate to, this is not the book for you. This collection could stand for a proper proofread and a whole lot of editing. There are many grammar, punctuation, and spelling errors through each story.

This is the third book we have read from Uncle Amon and this one is by far my favorite. Bedtime Stories is a collection of short stories centered around kids dreaming/imagination. It's a good story to read not only at bed time but at any time to help spark some imagination. These stories are the perfect length, read just one on those late nights, or they are short enough to read 2 when the little one gets to bed early. I enjoyed all the short stores in this book, they had a nice flow, well written, and kept me as an adult interested. I was able to download this book for free on the kindle and I'm glad I did.

Very cute! There are 5 great stories, each several pages long, so short but still long enough to get little imaginations flowing and hopefully send them off to dreamland ready for a midnight adventure. My favorite story is "Where is Teddy?" but all the tales are just adorable. With this ebook as a free gift you get 3 more children books that are downloadable.Uncle Amon has spun some fascinating stories. It would appear he also has a few more Bedtime Story books too, that just might be worth grabbing. My grandson is only two but I was able to get him to set with me long enough to read him a story, which I think he liked pretty good. I love to read and do so all the time, I hope I can get him to love books just as much as I do. Some how I missed the mark with my kids, they just never took to reading but here's my chance to try again! :)I read this in exchange for my honest opinion and review. It's a fun book full of big dreams.

There's really not too much to say about these bedtime stories. They're good stories, but not what I would consider "one of the greats". There are five short bedtime stories in all. They weren't bad stories by any means, but they definitely weren't anything my 5 year old son would ask for again by name. I did like that it had a variety of different stories. There was a pirate story more directed towards boys, a teddy bear story more directed towards girls, and a few stories (stars, moon, magic frog) that I would call more "gender neutral". I was a little disappointed by the lack of pictures. For being a book targeting kids aged 4-8, you'd think it would be full of illustrations. I did get the Kindle version, so maybe that's why. Not a favorite read of my kids. They like the stories, and it gets them to use their imaginations which is great for my two older kids. My little one still loves looking at pictures. the stories are short enough to read them all at bedtime. My husband has read a few of the stories to our kids too and thinks some of the stories are very silly. The Magical Frog is a favorite- because we would like the wish for no school or in my case no work tomorrow. My son likes the Adventure to the Moon- he has a telescope and loves to look at the moon, stars and planets. So he can imagine the story well. We received this item at a discount in exchange for our review.

This product is required reading for the North Carolina Real Estate Examination. The Book was written by several highly respected real estate brokers- however, the book does not necessarily connect with someone who is transitioning from one career to another. The book is not laid out in which it makes sense. The Basics are advanced, and the advanced is not detailed enough. If you purchase this out of necessity, please ensure that you grab the accompanying CD or the Practice text & Exam Questions. This will help you get your mind into the real estate land.

An earlier edition of this reference book was the text used by my pre-licensing instructor. Now that I'm licensed, I still keep an updated version on my reference bookshelf. It is simply a must have resource for any agent who dares to practice real estate in today's ever-more complex regulatory environment. I buy an updated copy at least every three year. In a profession which even the National Association of REALTORS® says is hobbled by incompetence and unethical behavior, "Modern Real Estate Practice" is a guiding light.

Superior School of Real Estate in NC is known for their great pass rate and so I ordered the book because they require that you read the first three chapters before you start the class. They prefer an earlier edition to the same book I am using but I have been told that the newest just has more info to help you study. I plan to start the class in May. I am very nervous and don't know what to expect. So, anyway I started reading and I am on Chapter 2 which seems forever long. I wish that particular chapter had been broken up but other than that I like the book so far and it came quickly with no problem.

Has some errors in it and we've only gotten through Unit 7 so far. Our teacher has called the REC though so maybe they will be getting it fixed for future print runs.

I bought this book to help me to some travel research for a photo trip that I was planning. While that trip got postponed, I ended up spending a lot of time with this book just because I discovered so much that I didn't know about Wisconsin. This book is just packed with information and it's all delivered in an extremely interesting and readable way. In fact, I will go out on a limb and say it's one of the best-written travel guides that I've read in a very long time (and I'm a travel writer by profession).The author, Thomas Huhti, obviously knows and loves Wisconsin and I found myself reading about places I'd never heard of before. I don't know if the author had a staff helping him research the text, but he did a fantastic job of research and organization--and I'm not sure it's a job I'd ever welcome taking on. A *lot* of work went into this book. (And no, I don't know the author, lol.) I loved the small reference to the fur trade helping to build cities, and how fishing seems to be such a large part of the state's recreational history.My only disappointment in the book is that other than a small section up front, all of the photos are in black and white. I would love to see a lot more color photography. There are lots of small maps, too, and they are simple and easy to use--clear maps being a rarity in a lot of travel guides.If I was heading to Wisconsin (and I hope I am soon), I'd be thrilled to have this book along. By the way, I find it almost impossible to believe that the publisher has allowed this book to go out of print--perhaps they are planning an update.

My wife and I spent just over a week road tripping throughout Wisconsin, seeing places we haven't seen despite both having lived there before. This book did a wonderful job navigating us to the places which seemed most interesting!

I bought this book for my father who is nearly 84 years old and a life-long Wisconsin resident, as a way to stimulate his imagination about places to see that are close to home. Sure, the handbook provides a lot of obscure facts. As a native of the state, however, some very interesting aspects of the history seem to glossed over. About a decade ago, I used a Moon Handbook when traveling overseas (Bali in particular) and was absolutely amazed the detail all of which was factual as far as I could tell.... cultural, social, and economic facts that even the native population did not know. I can't say the same about this volume. It is a good start, however, and like everyone who loves to hunt for mushrooms or go fishing knows, they aren't going tell you the best places to go. Even if you are family, sometimes.

I bought this for my parents along with a new Garmin GPS unit for their retirement. My mom told me she likes how it's set-up and found ideas for day trips that she didn't know about. I paged through it before I wrapped it up and it did look like a really helpful book. Yes, you can get the same info from the internet, but sometimes you just want a book that you can refer to.Based on my mom's feedback and having paged through it, it seems to be a great book for planning long weekend trips or one day road trips in Wisconsin.

I am in the process of reading this book at present. Because of its rich devotional style, I am intentionally reading it slowly so as to thoroughly benefit from the grace3 and wisdom of the author's decades of ministry experience. I have already sent a volume to a young pastor new to the ministry.

THIS WAS A GIFT FOR MY SON AND HE REALLY LIKE THIS BOOK. IT WAS ONE OF THE BOOKS HE WANTED AND WAS VERY HAPPY THAT HE GOT IT.

good book, i would recommend.

This book was given to me as a gift for Christmas, from my father. Little did I realize how much I would like this book too. Even though I received the paperback, since I did not have a Kindle yet, I have highlighted a lot in the book, to reference later on.I began reading Practical Wisdom For Pastors on Saturday morning, June 26th during both of our flights from New York to Kansas. Sunday I did not read, but did finish the book over Monday and Tuesday and I think the total time it took to read 272 pages of this book was approximately 8 hours, which is probably the fastest I've ever read a book too.I hope that many seminarians will consider having this book in their library and one that will be easily accessible and referred to often. This book would especially be helpful for those seminarians that are preparing for an internship within a local church too.My only regret is that I didn't read this book sooner because I've been serving as a pastoral intern since January 2010. I'm glad I have it now and look forward to reading some of the other books that are recommended by the author.

This is a must for ministers starting out in ministry. It deals with a lot of subjects that you deal with in ministry. From preaching to counseling to how you dress, it deals with most things inexperienced pastors don't know about. Great book. Highly recommend.

I used this book as a resource when writing a term paper, and it was great! It is also a good resource for pastors, ministers and evangelist who are going into ministry.

I just want to thank the author. I have personally experienced pastor's insensitivities of one of Korean presbyterian congregation in Huntsville Alabama. He is the only one to be preaching and afraid someone who knows more than he does. Calling him brother is insult to him. Calling Plymouth Brethren church cult because he is threatened by his only pastorship unlike biblical model of plurality of elders (pastors). He is not listening to congregation although he is not well read. Listening to only his supporters to stay on the job. Most of the time pastors are imported outside and his desires and finishing seminary qualify for pastorship instead of congregation and other five things mention in the book. It's time to check psycological condition of pastors like we do check astronauts.

This is another wonderful volume authored by David McCullough. The focus here is the construction of the Brooklyn Bridge. Key characters in this volume come to life.John Roebling--an immigrant from Germany--pulled himself up by the bootstraps. Starting out in western Pennsylvania, he began to develop a company that supported construction efforts such as bridges. And some fine bridges indeed! His son, Washington Roebling, was a fine officer in the Civil War. Afterwards, he began work in his father's company. The story of the e4lder Roebling's career is nicely done, as is the portrayal of other key characters.Other players in this story are colorful--Boss Tweed of Manhattan, for instance. Yet, it appears that the actual construction of the bridge was done pretty honestly--even though over the original projected costs. We learn of the tragic death of the mastermind--John Roebling. His son, Washington, taking over--and suffering from the bends, making his role more difficult in concluding the process. And Washintgton Roebling's wife, who became a significant player in the bridge's development.A wonderful tale, well told.

I mostly enjoyed this book, especially the first quarter and the last quarter. It is meticulously researched and as always, McCullough does a great job putting you in to the time period he is documenting.In this case McCullough takes us back to 19th century New York City, comparing and contrasting Manhattan and Brooklyn. He explains the initial impetus for a bridge over the East River to connect the 2 cities, how it would affect the lifestyles and economies of both cities.The book is covering an exciting time in America when large engineering projects were being accomplished which would lay an infrastructure which made the 20th century economy possible. He covers other bridge builders and their projects notably the Eads bridge over the Mississippi.As a lot of people know the Roebling family sacrifices made the Brooklyn bridge possible. Mcculloughcovers the life of German born Joeseph Roebling an educated engineer who emigrated to Pennsylvania and founded a community of Germans. After about a decade however Roebling went back into engineering and began a series of high profile suspension bridges, notably Roebling bridge in Cincinnati and a railroad bridge over the Niagara river.When Roebling began work on the Brooklyn bridge his son was his main assistant – Washington Roebling. Unfortunately after his foot was injured in an on the job accident, Joeseph Roebling contracted gangrene and died. His son had to take over as the main engineer for the bridge and he accomplished it by using caissons to sink the foundation of the towers. At that time the medical issues associated with working in pressures greater than one atmosphere were not well understood. Washington Roebling basically sacrificed his life due to his becoming chronically ill from having worked in the caissons and suffering the bends repeatedly. He was bedridden for years, but still managed to manage the project from his home in Brooklyn.There were some drawbacks to this book, mostly in the middle parts of it. I don't think that the book did a great job of describing the “how to” part of building the bridge. I had seen a special on the history channel on building the bridge. Without that I don't think the book would have made clear what was involved in the caissons and “spinning the wire” . Also the book gets a little bogged down in the politics behind building the bridge, the graft and corruption involved.Overall though this was a good book to help you understand what went into building a great American landmark.

Do not buy the Kindle edition! Like others have stated, this book has lengthy, detailed descriptions that are hard to follow even by those with engineering experience. I believe the paper version has diagrams that may bump this book up to a 4-star rating for me. This was my first time reading a David McCullough book, and I appreciated the history of the bridge's construction which was clearly thoroughly researched. I could have done with a little less about the political and social history that was only loosely related to the building of the bridge. Those long, droning chapters could have easily been condensed and made the book much more focused and easier to get through. Overall, an OK read.

Having just read McCullough's far breezier "The Wright Brothers" and being at a year's distance from his wonderful book about John Adams, I had to make a few adjustments in my head to get into the rhythm and level of detail contained in "The Great Bridge." I often wonder how Mr. McCullough has the wherewithal to track down the seemingly endless details about his subject matter and then turn everything into a compelling story. Whatever his process, he succeeds magnificently in writing about the Brooklyn Bridge. Every politician, crook (is that redundant?), engineer, onlooker and more are woven together into a tale almost as expansive and astounding as the physical bridge itself. They didn't have electronic design tools back then but oh how people like John Roebling and his son Washington and Washington's wife Emily (come to think of it, were there any like them?) could envision a massive structure that would not only change the flow of commerce forever but create a lasting piece of mega-art. McCullough is a national treasure on a par with any of the grand subjects he trains his attention on. My only criticism is that given all the technical details provided, the reader would be better served by a fuller set of drawings of the bridge and its major components. A little too much is left to the reader to try to visualize. That said, the photos are wonderful and if one has the time to devote to absorbing as opposed to merely reading this book, it will pay off for a lifetime. As an aside, the last chapter ("The People's Day") and the epilogue are stunning, well worth on their own the price of the book and investment of the reader's time.

An amazing history about the boys who fought side-by-side during the US/Mexico war only to fight against each other a few years later during the American Civil war! Lots of rich information from Martin Dugard, the king of historical research! Fun reading and you'll learn something.

Excellent portrayal of the early careers of these prominent Civil War officers. Reads like a story...plenty of description of the hardships they experienced as young officers in the field, prior to the moment that they assumed their commands a generation later. A must read for anyone interested in American Civil War history.

Great insight into the events shaping the military experiences of the most influential players in the Civil War.

I bought the audio cds for The Training Ground and I have enjoyed it very much.I enjoy Civil War history and I was fascinated with how The Training Ground brought the later movers and shakers of the Civil War to life by showing how they developed during the Mexican American War. The Training Ground is not an overall account of the Mexican American War; it is instead a series of biographies tied together to show how the war progressed from the perspecitves of key individuals. The history is told in a way that really captures the listener and the narration is very well done.I enjoyed the Training Ground so much that I sent the set of Audio Cds to my father to listen to so he could enjoy it. He later said that it was the most interesting set of historical CDs he had listened to and he exclusiverly listens to historical CDs when driving.I highly recomend The Training Ground in the Audio CD format.

I liked the book...good history of young US Grant

While a most enjoyable read, I must agree with other reviewers that this book fails, but for yet more reasons. It fails because it is not true to its own stated purpose. Early in the book, Mr. Dugard states that he is fascinated with the potential young people have and how that potential manifests through the course of their lives. He also says that the book is not meant to be a history of the Mexican War, but rather an analysis of the young graduates of West Point who went on to prosecute that war and later face each other on opposite sides in the War Between the States. The book accomplishes neither of these goals.Mr. Dugard starts by telling of the early lives of the great figures of mid-19th century America who graduated from West Point, particularly Lee, Grant, Meade and Davis. Notice I did not say Sherman, a big name given short shrift despite the subtitle. Much of the material seems to come from the memoirs of these men, and the long quotes are the book's highlights. The book then moves to the conflict over Texas, Polk's agenda and the outbreak of the Mexican War. As usual, there are subtle politically correct condemnations of the motivations and prejudices associated with these events that ring from the words chosen; this demonstrates a lack of historical perspective. Nineteenth century Americans were motivated by completely different assumptions and world views from ours today; current moral yardsticks are useless. The author also injects needless schmaltz such as descriptions of gentle breezes blowing across this and that or emotions felt by anonymous soldiers. Popular histories are often filled with these unsubstantiated musings and they never add to the narrative. Then the book turns into just what Mr. Dugard said it was not - a history of the Mexican War. No it is a history of the Mexican War alright, blow by blow and chronological, detailing logistics, losses in men and horses, troop movements and geography. And except for the fact checking it does a darn good job of telling of that war, but that was not the books stated purpose.But the biggest problem is in the failure of theme, the lack of analysis of the potential these men had and how the Mexican War affected their conduct of the War Between the States and their future. But for a short epilog, the book ends abruptly with the end of the Mexican War. Yet many opportunities for analysis present themselves. For example, it seems reasonable that Grant's brilliant tactical move down the Mississippi to affect a surprise attack on Vicksburg's rear was influenced by his observation of Scott's round-end tactics used twice in the battle for Mexico City. After the discussion of Lincoln's pacifism while in the House of Representatives in 1847, there follows no analysis of the irony of that pacifism 14 years later when Lincoln provoked the attack on Fort Sumter. Mr. Dugard explores none of the questions he raises. There is no discussion of "potential" and the result of that potential anywhere in the book.I must agree with other reviewers that the lack of rigor in getting facts both large and small right seriously comprises the book. A history book like a scientific paper hangs on all its facts or none. Mr. Dugard is a professional writer, not an academic. He is evidently not accustomed to rigor. Perhaps he should stick to writing of sports where he is not a journeyman. That said, he is a good writer, not poetic, not imaginative, not challenging but a good, solid pleasant writer. So but for the irritations (Lincoln elected in 1859? Young master Dugard must have skipped civics class that day) this is an enjoyable read.Lastly, I must respond to Mr. Brewer's review and defend Mr. Dugard on one point. The U.S. won every major engagement of the Mexican War and most of the skirmishes. The U.S. got all of its territorial demands in the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. That may not be victory by 20th century standards (total subjugation of a population), but it certainly was by mid 19th century standards.

Good Understandable Translation. This would be the best book to start with regarding The Kabbalah. This was easier to follow than others out on Kindle.

as the Zohar by Mr. Matt isn't available digitally this is the best work in digital for now..we NEED the Zohar in digital..why settle for scraps when the main course is there it just needs prepared..please have some mercy on our backs.

The Kabbalah is a very interesting work. It has been something that I have read bits and pieces of. But as I read in my 70's I really like it. It gives us a different way to think about God. The Christian faith talks about three persons of a trinity. But the Kabbalah has many faces or qualities of God. God is One in the Jewish faith, the Christian faith and the faith of Islam. And in the Bible and Tanek, we are created in God's image, Male & Female, God made us. In the Kabbalah The Creator has a partner the Shekhinah or feminine half of God. "The union of Shekhinah and the Tif'eret constitutes the focus of religious life." In the wisdom literature of the Bible, we see the feminine side of God in the Spirit.I think that anyone truly interested in the sacred Being. Will find a wealth of thought provoking material.
